York Mills Centre was developed by
York-Trillium
Development Group Limited and constructed in four phases (now called "Buildings
1, 2, 3 and 4") from 1985 until final completion in 1992. The site was zoned for office development in the North York Official Plan and the 'top of slope' of the adjacent lands was the height limit for all parts of any development.
The York Mills Centre site is part of historic Hogg's
Hollow where the first settler arrived in 1794. It was
originally called the York Mills Village due to the
development of the area around three mill sites. At the
start of the 20th century, the valley began to develop a
residential area. Surrounded by tall trees, steep hills
and parkland, Hogg's Hollow has become one of Toronto's
prime residential areas.
